A trailblazer in team training, JoAn co-founded The Soft Skills Institute, a Nationally recognized AGD PACE provider, with her dentist husband. Fondly referred to as the “verbal word surgeon,” she’s a content creation specialist turning tough or technical conversations into scalable systems that produce stronger connections with curiosity. TSSI’s robust online library contains “snackable” training videos (2-16 minutes), quizzes, and worksheets, giving teams actionable soft skills systems following her train the trainer or seminars.
Her writing and platform voice is similar, showcasing her master storytelling style. Published in 25 magazines and newsletters, she’s written five books. Her first, in 2006, trained thousands of implant teams and became a dental bestseller in under 12 months. Her latest, Permission to Be Honest -Tough Talk on Soft Skills, is available now. JoAn’s happy place is inspiring teams to action with her signature “open arms” communication and helping new speakers within groups and DSOs discover “their” voice and story. A rich history spanning four decades, she has spoken or emceed events across the US and Canada, from study clubs and large associations to tech companies, manufacturers, and labs.
JoAn is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), the highest earned designation in the speaking business by the National Speakers Association and achieved by less than 12% of professional speakers worldwide. Additionally, one of only two CSP clinical assistants worldwide. She holds the team training faculty position (the only non-dentist) for Misch Implant Institute, a 2022 Industry Denobi Award Winner, and serves on the Advisory Board for Dental Entrepreneur Women (DeW). A member of AADOM/ASCA, ADIA, DSI, NSA, NSA Austin, and other organizations, she achieved a bucket list speaking opportunity by being selected to speak on the main stage for NSA’s annual INFLUENCE meeting in 2022.
